The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team heads to the  64-team NCAA Division II tournament this weekend, but there will be no fans in the stands.

It has been a historic season for the CMU Mavericks. Unfortunately, most Maverick fans haven't been able to enjoy the games in person and that will be the case again this weekend at the NCAA  West Regional in Golden. No spectators will be allowed in Lockridge Arena for the tournament.

CMU Mavericks Earn Top Seed At Regional Tournament

Having no fans in the stands is unfortunate for fans and for the Mavericks, who won their second consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament title this past weekend. The Mavericks beat Colorado School of Mines  75-74 in an overtime thriller at Brownson Arena. In the process, the Mavs earned the top seed in the west region.

With an impressive 21-1 record, the Mavericks have made it to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season, although last season's tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, the Mavs won their first regular-season title in 11  years under third-year head coach Mike DeGeorge.

The Matchups

This weekend's NCAA West Regional is a six-team bracket. The number one seeded Mavericks have a first-round bye and will play Sunday at 8:45pm. They will face the winner of No. 4 seed Point Loma (8-2) and No. 5 seed Northwest Nazarene(11-4). Colorado School of Mines, the No. 2 seed also has a first-round bye and will play Sunday at 6:00pm against the winner between No. 3 seed Biola and No. 6 seed Fresno Pacific.

How to Watch the Game

With no fans being allowed in the stands,  your only chance to see the game is online. The live stream can be accessed through the Colorado School of Mines website. Fans can watch or listen, and follow the live stats of all the tournament games through this portal.

We want to say good luck to the Mavericks in the regional this weekend. Their ultimate goal will be to win the regional championship and earn a trip to the Division II men's basketball championship in Evansville, Indiana March 24-27.
