Richard and Maurice McDonald opened the first McDonald's Restaurant back in 1940. Back then, it was a simple hamburger stand known as McDonald's Bar-B-Q. Today, the chain still serves about 175 million customers every year.

Recently, CoventryDirect.com polled all fifty states to try to find out which item was the most popular in each. What do you think was Colorado's most ordered menu item? What about Grand Junction's favorite item at McDonald's?

Colorado's Favorite Menu Item at McDonald's

According to the CoventryDirect.com survey, Colorado shared the same opinion as nine other states by crowning the Quarter Pounder with cheese as the Centennial State's favorite menu item.

In second place nationwide was the McCrispy (6 states) followed by the McChicken (5 states). States like Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, and Michigan all selected items from the McDonald's breakfast menu. See the entire map of all 50 states here.

That Quarter Pounder with cheese might be the item Coventrydirect.com says is ordered most in Colorado, but you told us on our station app that it's actually the fries.

Lots of restaurants make fries, but there is only one golden arches. Eat them quickly though, after about ten minutes they suddenly become something we feel much differently about. Is there no way to extend the life of perfectly golden French fries?

What Do They Order Next Door?

What about Colorado's neighboring states? To the south, New Mexico's favorite item is also the Quarter Pounder with cheese. The same goes for Oklahoma and Kansas.
Nebraska is one of two McFlurry states, opting for a dessert item. Wyoming went with Sausage McGriddles, and Utah selected the Spicey McChicken.

Of note, both Michigan and Ohio went with hashbrowns. Of all the things at McDonald's, hashbrowns? North Carolina was the lone Apple Pie state, South Carolina selected pancakes.
