Colorado's Highest Property Taxes
Now that we all wish we had the same property tax bills as Dolores County, who is paying the highest property taxes in the state?
Douglas County is home to Colorado's highest median property tax payment at about $3,490 which is about $400 more than the national median of $3,057. Douglas County (between Denver and Colorado Springs) is home to the Creek Bottom Trail at Castelwood Canyon State Park, the Lone Tree Arts Center, and the Douglas County Rodeo.

Colorado's Largest Property Tax Increases
Some Coloradans feel property tax increases have been out of control in recent years following $2.4 billion in 2024, which is up 19% since 1975. Total property tax revenue in Colorado has grown from $7.8 billion in 2015 to $15.3 billion in 2024.
One of the largest increases by county occurred in Pitkin County, where the increase of 80% over two years leading up to 2023 meant a drastic increase in property taxes.
