Grand Junction Veterans Art Center Saved by New Roof
Grand Junction’s Veterans Art Center has been at the corner of 12th and Ute since the nonprofit Operation Revamp purchased the building and opened the space in May of 2013.
Hands-on art and music programs hosted by the center help former service members manage PTSD and reconnect socially. For years, these programs have been at risk due to water leaks and repair failures that nearly forced our veterans out of the building.

During Grand Junction’s showers and thunderstorms, water leaks into the building and damages parts of the veteran’s facility. The center has struggled for years to maintain both services and replace the roof. Temporary repairs and patchwork fixes have led to the very real possibility of Operation Revamp vacating the building, forcing out the art center that many veterans rely on. Take a look at the roof for yourself here.
A $20,000 Setback — Then the Community Stepped In
Nonprofits often barely raise enough to cover the costs of the services they provide, let alone trying to pay for a new roof. In a story shared by Yahoo News, a contractor who accepted $20K to fix the roof allegedly never ordered the materials and never completed the work. After filing a police report, things went back to square one. That’s when Grand Junction roofing companies and community supporters stepped up to restart and help complete the project.

KKCO News 11 reports the work is now in progress and should be completed over the next few days, weather permitting. Join us in shouting out to Full Curl Roofing Company and the other businesses that helped with the costs. Once the work is done, the center can get back to connecting through art and music. For Grand Junction’s veteran community, protecting the building means protecting a place where people are healing.
