Yes, the rats. Denver, Colorado has landed once again on Orkin's list of the most rat-infested cities in America during a period from September of 2023 to August of 2024.
Fast Rat Facts
According to Rentokil.com, a female rat can have about six litters per year (having up to 12 rat pups at a time). This means that 2 adult rats can become more than 1200 rats in one year. Wood rats, also known as pack rats, are the most common type of rodent found in Colorado along with mice. Wood rats can grow up to 18 inches long with large eyes and ears. Their fur is usually greyish-brown.
Most Rat Rat-Infested City in Colorado
The city of Denver has spent most of the last decade somewhere in Orkin's Top Ten list of the most rat-infested cities. From September of 2023 to August of 2024, Denver is ranked 6th overall on Orkin's National list of most rat-infested cities, likely home to more than a couple of million rats. Denver is the only city in the state of Colorado to land on Orkin's list of infested metros.
The Signs of Infestation
According to Orkin, rodents are known to spread illness to people including Leptospirosis, Salmonellosis, LCM, plague, and typhus. Signs of rat infestation include rat droppings near the places where rats find food. The sounds of scurrying and scratching, gnaw marks on walls and furniture, grease marks along baseboards and doorways from their fur, and rat burrows among piles of debris are all signs of a rat infestation.
