Scenic drives through Colorado are an awesome way to spend a summer weekend. Depending on your destination, you might look out the window and think your eyes are playing tricks on you. Is that a castle in the distance?

There are nine castles in the Centennial state that date back ages, and many of the still host events, and weddings, and are open to group tours by appointment. Scroll on to check out videos of each, then continue to the gallery below to find out the location of each one.

Bishops Castle

It's an incredible sight. Built by one man, stone by stone. Tap the video to check it out and find directions in the gallery below all the videos. While you are allowed to visit the upper reaches of the castle, extreme care should be taken when doing so. I'll wait down here.

Cherokee Ranch and Castle

Cherokee Castle was built from 1928 to 1928 and was known as Charlford Castle. Denver architect Burnham F. Hoyt designed the castle and went on to design the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado.

Glen Eyrie Castle

Glen Eyrie is a castle fit for a General. In fact, it was designed by one. General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs, built the castle in 1871.

Dunafon Castle

Dunafon Castle is said to have been built in the 1930s by M. Wright. This castle has been up for sale in recent years. A river runs near the castle, and it has recently come back to life as a popular wedding rental on the Front Range.

Westminster Castle

Westminster Castle is a historic landmark in Colorado and the view from inside is incredible. It was built in 1892 and is 175 feet tall. Known to locals as the Pillar of Fire, it is a historic landmark and home to Belleview Christian Schools.

Miramont Castle

Completed in 1895, Miramont Castle was the home of Father Jean Baptist Francolon. Visitors can tour the 42 rooms inside and stop for tea in the tea room. The castle also is home to a gift shop. Check out the video and scroll on to find this location in the gallery below.

Redstone Castle

Redstone Castle was built in 1903 and is also known by the names Cleveholm and Osgood Castle. This was the first location in Pitkin County added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Historic Castle Marne

William A. Lang built Castle Marne in 1890. The castle features incredible stained glass, original wood beams, and a three-story tower.

Richthofen Castle

Richthofen Castle was completed in 1887 by Alexander Cazin for Baron Walter von Richthofen. It has 35 rooms inside. Find out more about Richthofen Castle below.
