Grand Junction Says New Canyon View Gates Are About Safety
One of my favorite things about Grand Junction's Canyon View Park is that it has two entrances. This makes it so much easier to get in and out when one side of the park is busy and the other is not.
Canyon View Park still has two entrances, but both access points now have vehicle gates installed. Keep reading to find out why these gates have been installed, and when they will open and close each day.
What’s Changing at Canyon View Park
Grand Junction has announced that following Labor Day Weekend, new vehicle gates installed at Canyon View Park will close at night, reopening at 5 a.m. the following morning. The gates will close when the park closes, 11 p.m. in the summer and 9 p.m. during the winter. The change only stops people from entering the park outside of posted hours and prevents people from cutting through the park at night.

Grand Junction announced the installation of the gates on August 25th as a response to growing misuse at the park. The civic alert at GJCity.org said, "These safety measures will help ensure the park remains a safe, active, and inviting space for families, athletes, and visitors."
Firsthand Look at After-Hours Park Misuse
I often visit the park early in the morning before it gets hot, and I frequently notice people sleeping in their cars. Sometimes it was obvious that vehicles had been driven on the grass overnight, and more than once, I arrived to find large amounts of broken glass scattered in the parking lots. I'm glad that's all I saw. Welcome gates, glad to have ya.
