Coloradans Still Drinking and Driving – DUI Arrests On The Rise
The number of Colorado drivers that continue to drink and drive is downright scary. DUI arrest numbers are way up.
In a recent planned campaign, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) conducted it's "Fall Festivals DUI Enforcement Period." It ran from September 15 through October 23. During that period 1,837 impaired drivers were arrested in Colorado. That's an increase of almost 23 per cent from the same period last year. To put that in different terms, that's an average of 47 DUI arrests a day.
Even Halloween weekend showed some scary DUI numbers. That weekend alone there were 375 DUI arrests made in Colorado. Again, that is massive increase from 2016.
Even here in Mesa County the numbers are staggering. In those two periods a total of 97 DUI arrests were made. Delta County had 6. Montrose County with 11 and Garfield with 42.
Drinking and driving is a subject that is very close to my heart. Please don't do it. It is not worth the risk to yourself and to others. In my younger days, I did it. Knowingly. More than I should have. Luckily, I never got hurt or hurt anyone else. But, that doesn't mean I was never hurt by a drunk driver.
Don't drink and drive.
