The Colorado Mesa Mavericks are on the road this weekend to take on two of the top teams in the conference, CSU Pueblo and University of Colorado - Colorado Springs.

The Maverick men's basketball team is 11-3 overall, and 6-2 in the RMAC after splitting a pair of games last weekend. The Mavs knocked off Colorado Christian 66-64 on Julian Vasquez's jumper at the beater, and then fell to 9th ranked Colorado Mines 61-58 when Mike Melillio's three pointer rimmed out at the buzzer.

The Mavs played both games without leading scorer Ryan Stephan, who missed the games because of a sprained foot. Head Coach Andy Shantz says Stephan's status is day-to-day at this point.

The Mavericks will need all the fire-power they can muster this weekend when they take on CSU Pueblo on Friday night, boasting a record of 8-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play. On Saturday, the Mavs take on UCCS, which heads into the weekend undefeated on the season at 13-0. If the  2nd ranked Cougars beat Western State on Friday night it would mean the CMU Mavericks would be playing an undefeated and top-ten ranked team for the second consecutive week.

The Maverick women have their hands more than full against CSU Pueblo, 7-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play, and UCCS, 11-2 overall and 6-1 in the RMAC. The Mavericks currently sit in first place in the conference standings at 7-1, 10-2 overall.

Like the men, the ladies had a buzzer over the weekend,  when Erika Musante's put-back at the buzzer lifted the Mavs over the upset-minded Orediggers of Colorado Mines 44-42. On Friday, the Mavericks overcame a tough Colorado Christian squad 55-50. The Mavs have won 44 consecutive games at home.

The women's game begins at 5:30 both days, with men's action to follow.
