Chicken Manure Spilled on Colorado Highway Thursday Morning

A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of manure rolled over on an on-ramp Thursday morning.

The semi-truck was turning onto C-470 from I-70 near Denver just before 8 o'clock this morning when it blew a tire and flipped over. The result was a stinky mess, spilling some of the manure onto the ramp.

According to a Facebook post by the Golden Fire Department, the smell coming from the truck was so bad that pictures didn't "do the smell justice."

Golden Fire-Rescue had this to say about the incident:

A smelly situation on I-70 westbound at the C-470 off ramp right now (just before 8 a.m. on 8/27/20). It appears that a tractor trailer blew a tire and rolled over. Fortunately no one is hurt and no other cars were involved. But the exit ramp will likely be closed for a few more hours until the truck can be towed away. In the trailer... fertilizer. About 40,000 lbs. of chicken manure, to be exact. Firefighters on scene say the pictures don't do the smell justice. Thanks to our partners at Pleasant View Fire, AMR, Golden Police, CDOT, and Jefferson County Sheriff who are helping with this odoriferous situation.

My dad has raised chickens for years, usually around 15 to 20 at a time, and from being around them I can definitely attest to the fact that they are stinky birds. Their chicken coops need to be cleaned regularly, and even then the smell is pretty bad. I can't imagine the smell of 40,000 pounds of chicken poo, but I can guarantee it is not pleasant.
