A suspect that allegedly made a bomb threat at Delta's Walmart store has been arrested.

The suspect, 35-year-old Gabe Smith of Delta, allegedly made the threat on New Year's Eve (December 31st, 2020) which resulted in the Walmart store being evacuated that night.

Prior to the incident, Smith allegedly made threats to harm himself as well as others inside of the Walmart store hours earlier, threats that prompted police to arrive at the store to investigate around 6:45 p.m. on the same night that the bomb threats were made.

The Walmart store, located at 37 Stafford Lane in Delta, was greeted by police at the time of the initial threats but not shut down immediately.

However, following the police learning of the bomb threats made by Smith, police acted quickly and evacuated the store, while remaining in contact with the suspect. Officers tried reasoning with Smith, which eventually led to him meeting with the officers outside the store where he was consequently arrested shortly thereafter.

The incident initially occurred with Smith taking a radio from one of the Walmart employees and used the intercom system to notify employees and customers that he had placed bombs inside the store and that he intended on detonating them. It's unclear as to how the employees and customers reacted to the announcement, but we do know that the store was eventually evacuated.

Following the police's arrival, Smith was promptly arrested and is now in custody at the Delta County Jail where he is being held on a $5,000 bond facing charges of menacing and theft.
