Just last week I was talking about how much fun I had at Ouray Hot Springs, it was so relaxing and such beautiful scenery. But unfortunately this morning we are smacked in the face with a reminder that hot springs can be very dangerous and it only takes a matter of seconds for tragedy to strike.

Getting the information from the Durango Herald this morning that a 5-year-old boy drowned Sunday night at the Durango Hot Springs. The child was rushed to Mercy hospital but life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

The incident took place in what is referred to at the large swimming pool at the hot springs at around 6:10 p.m. There is video footage of the incident which is being reviewed by law enforcement to try and piece together what exactly happened and how things went wrong.

A staff member at the hot springs began CPR immediately and paramedics took over upon arrival. The boy's father went in the ambulance with him but at the hospital, the doctors pronounced him dead.

The identity of the victim and the hometown of the family are being withheld at this time.

The hot springs were shut down for the remainder of the night on Sunday.

There aren't word to say that will help with the loss of a 5-year-old boy who was just enjoying himself spending family time at the hot springs. While I cannot understand what this family is going through I wish I could take some of their pain away. Please remember to hug your family members a little tighter after reading about a tragic incident like this.
