It's that time of year again to grab your tent and enjoy campfire stories, food in tin foil over the fire, fresh Colorado air, s'mores, sleeping outside, and more. We searched for the best free and cheao campsites in the Western Slope and here's what we found.

Carson lake Recreation Area
These are campsites located in the Grand Mesa National Forest, some developed and some undeveloped. Take a look around for wild strawberries and raspberries. There are fire rings available, along with restrooms and picnic tables. The Grand Mesa is full of fishing and hiking areas.

Mud Springs Campground
You can stay up to two weeks at this site located within a small aspen grove. BBQ grills, drinking water, fire rings, picnic tables, and restrooms are all provided. ATV, hiking, and biking trails, along with fishing spots, surround the area.

Enochs Lake
Located in the Glade Park/Pinion Mesa area, this camp area allows you to stay up to two weeks. It has fire rings, picnic tables, restrooms and trash cans available. The area is surrounded by bike, hike and horse trails, fishing spots, and swimming. (Closed for the season as of September 20, 2016)

Miracle Rock
Beautiful location on Glade Park. Has restrooms, picnic tables, and fire rings, but trash is carried out. There is a trailhead near the campsite that goes up to Miracle Rock. There are also swimming holes and many other hikes nearby.

Rabbit Valley Recreation Area
Located in McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. There a few designated camp spots with picnic tables and restrooms, along with open space for those who don't mind making their own spot. With the vast area, there is no limit to RV size. Beautiful hiking trails with Colorado River overlooks, along with horse and ATV trails.
