Western Colorado is in for a special treat when the 1998 and 1999 TNN/Music City News Entertainer of the Year and Platinum selling recording artist Neal McCoy comes to the Bud Light Colorado Pork and Hops Challenge on Saturday, September 8th.

It just so happens, September 8th is my 68-year-old mother's birthday, and she wants one thing and one thing only for a present:  tickets to Neal McCoy.  She has been a loyal member of his fan club for 20 years, with no chance of waning from her devotion.

There are several very solid reasons why Neal McCoy is repeatedly asked to come to Grand Junction, and several reasons why he is always so willing to do it.  In no particular order:

  • Neal McCoy is an outstanding live entertainer.  During an interview at Major Mortgage Country Jam earlier this year, legendary Country Music star Charlie Daniels said during his Jumbotron interview, "Neal McCoy has perfected the art of live entertainment."

Nobody takes care of their fans like Neal McCoy.  Most of the time, we're lucky if an entertainer will do ten meet-n'-greets with the fans.  Neal McCoy will actually walk out in the festival grounds and meet and take photos with anybody who wants to.

  • Neal is very good to his band and employees.  Many of his players have been with him for decades.  Neal's road manager, Les Martines, has been with him for over 20 years.  Speaking with Les last year backstage before a show, I asked how he liked his gig working with Neal.  His response, "There's a reason why I've been doing this for 21 years."
  • Neal loves to work.  By my count, Neal McCoy played The Rose in Grand Junction several times, Country Jam on more than one occasion.  He's played the Moffat County Fair a time or two.  In another week, he will be right back here in Grand Junction.
  • You deserve it!  There have been some great concerts this season, but why not wrap up the summer with the cream of the crop?
  • The Bud Light Colorado Pork and Hops Challenge, brought to you by US Bank, makes its way to Lincoln Park on September 7th and 8th.  Tickets available at the KEKB studios at 315 Kennedy Avenue, area Stop N' Saves, and at the Grand Junction Parks and Rec office at Lincoln Park.
