Last night on the Northeastern part of the state, around 8 p.m. a tornado touched down and destroyed a few homes and telephone polls. Half the town of Akron was without power last night after 6 utility poles were ripped from the ground.

There were wind gusts of over 52 mph reported over near Denver yesterday. The high winds caused trees to fall, and the Denver International Airport was forced to cancel flights. 26 flights were reportedly cancelled at DIA as of 8 p.m. last night. There is still a winter warning in affect for Northern and Eastern Colorado until 8 p.m. this evening.

Also, high winds over near Greeley caused power lines and telephone lines to fall causing a small grass fire. East of Windsor a small fire was reported and 2 fire trucks responded and were able to put the fire out. The same wind storm tipped over planes at the airport in Holyoke.

There is still a winter storm warning in effect until 6 p.m. this evening
