A recent study showed that married women drink more than divorced, widowed or single woman. On the other hand, married men drink less then when they were single. Marriage might make men sober up and try to be more responsible, but tying the knot has the opposite effect on women. So, why do woman all the sudden drink more when they are married and men less?

Some women would say that the reason women drink more in a marriage is to deal with the stress and so called "hardships" of marriage. Other would even argue its because of increased P.M.S. (Putting up with Mens S---.)

According to the NY Daily News, Corinne Reczek of the University of Cincinnati did a study on 5,000 Wisconsin women and men over the last 47 years. Corrine found that men, overall, drink more than women whether they be single or married. Married women drink more to keep up with their husbands drinking habits. Men drink less when they are married because they no longer have the same freedoms to go out with the boys and get sloshy.

The study also showed that divorced men drink far more alcohol than married men. Is it because of heartbreak, or trying to make up for lost time? Divorced women drank less than married women because they no longer have to keep up with their husbands habits.

"Men who divorce may cope with stress using alcohol use, wherein women are shown to cope with stress in more internalizing ways, including depression," Reczek said.
