With wind chills at around 10 below tonight in Western Colorado, the question must be asked - would you rather have 10 below in December or 110 degrees in July?

One of the really great things about living in the Grand Valley is the generally mild temperatures we enjoy throughout the year. Sure, we have some extremes, but typically they are short-lived. Sometimes, they are not.

So, which is worse - the extreme cold, or the extreme hot? I am guessing a lot of people would opt for something in the middle. Unfortunately, that is not one of the options being presented. For this discussion, it has to be one or the other.

For me, the answer is crystal clear. I will take the heat anytime over the cold, no question about it. Extreme cold is far more uncomfortable than extreme heat and creates far more issues like shoveling snow,  scraping icy windshields, having to warm up the vehicle, and navigating slick roads.

Let me point out that when the mercury hits 100+ degrees in July, I am not driving around in an air conditioned vehicle. Yet, for me, that is much less unpleasant than just about anything Old Man Winter hands us - and it's not even winter yet!

I would like to think that  rarely, if ever, will you hear me complain about the summer heat. If you do, please call me and remind me about the post I wrote on December 12, 2013.
