It was one of the greatest days in history, September 8, 1966. A new adult space drama called "Star Trek" made its debut on network television. For the first time, we saw the Enterprise zip past our TV screens. Of course, we all know what happened after that. Do you remember where you were that day?

In my case, I was still four years away from being an embryo. In my mom's case, however, she was glued to her TV screen. She wasn't really interested in this new show. More than anything, she had the hots for some young actor named William Shatner, and she wanted to catch his new show.

You'll note in the video above the premiere date was originally scheduled for September 15, 1966. This is not a boo boo. The premiere was moved up a week.

What was going on in the world on September 8, 1966? Well, it was a Thursday night. If you weren't catching the premiere of Star Trek, you might have been watching the premiere of "That Girl" starring Marlo Thomas.

At that same time, a new house would have cost you an average of $14,200.00. A typical new car would cost you $2,650.00, and it would have cost you an average of .32 cents a gallon to fuel it.

Were you one of the lucky few to actually be in front of the TV when Star Trek first aired, or were you still in the development stages?
