Whether it's actual bungee jump or something that feels like bungee jumping, it seems we have a fascination with the fearful feeling of falling.....and falling....and falling.

There are inherent dangers that come up with bungee jumping - and that right there probably best explains the thrill. There is an element of danger, but, yet, it is the reassurance of being completely safe and secure that compels us to jump.

The odds of dying in a bungee jump are about 1 in 500,000 -about the same as your chances of being killed in a parachuting accident. According to the National Safety Council, you're more likely to die from a bee sting or a lightning strike than from a bungee jump.

So now that we have determined that bungee jumping is (almost) perfectly safe, let's take a look at some of the places in Colorado where you can experience the thrill - or something close to it.

    Giant Canyon Swing

    Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

So,  here's one that isn't an actual bungee jump, but it does offer a similar sensation. USA Today calls it one of the most extreme rides in the country. The fact that you are 1300  feet above the Colorado River is just a bonus thrill.

    Royal Rush Sky Coaster

    Royal Gorge

This one is the real deal, though, not like the ones where a cord is tied to your ankles. This is a 50 mph drop from the "flying superman" position. This is probably the closest feeling to flying like Superman that you can experience, excepting an actual skydive out of an airplane. From 1200 feet above the Arkansas River, you can feel the thrill of the fall with a friend or two - and there's no weight limit.

    XLR8R

    Elitch Gardens

This is the largest free-fall swing in Colorado. You are pulled 150 feet into the air - and dropped. It's the feeling of bungee jumping, hang gliding, and skydiving all at once. You can experience this thrill ride for just $30 and maybe the cost of a new pair of underwear.

    Bungee Tramp

    Lawson Adventure Park

For the slightly less adventurous, there is the  Bungee Tramp in the town of Dumont, west of Denver. Here you are attached to several bungee cords and you jump on a trampoline, as high as you want to go, up to three stories. You can jump, twist, and flip for 10 minutes for $15.
