Have you said to yourself, "Man, I really need to get my metal detector skills back in shape"? A local organization invites you to fire up your metal detector, your family, and your enthusiasm, and join them for a "Metal Detector Hunt."

The Thunderbird Rock and Mineral Hounds invite you to celebrate International MineLab Metal Detector Day this Saturday, May 14, near the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction.

What exactly will they be doing? The group will host activities for the kids, offer detector help classes, and teach you to fine tune your skills.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. - Detector help classes, fine tune your skills, learn or teach new methods
  • 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. - Kids under 12 hunt in their own areas
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. - General hunt

How much? The cost is $10 per detector, or $15 per family (cash only). Prizes will be awarded.

At some point in time, everybody and their dog has owned a metal detector. Unfortunately, only a handful of people actually know how to use the thing. Be one of them. Make plans to attend this event.
