The Colorado Department of Agriculture John Salazar, Commissioner wants to remind you to honor Colorado farmers & rancher this spring for the "vital role they play in all our lives". You can do this by telling us who you get your local produce & meat from!

In an Opinion article written this June Salazar says,

Colorado farmers and ranchers are often overlooked for the vital role they play in all our lives and spring time is the perfect time to honor them for their contribution to our way of life.

Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis. But too few people truly understand this contribution.

Why should you buy local?

  1. Freshness-Instead of traveling an average of 1500 miles from the farm to your plate, local produce is harvested and delivered immediately. Spending less time in transport means fresh products that retain more of their nutritional value.
  2. Jobs-Buying local sustains family farms and ranches, and contributes to the state economy.
  3. Environment-Buying local is better because it helps keep farms and ranches profitable, thereby maintaining open space and wildlife habitat.
  4. Regional Favorites-Buying local lets you experience local products like Palisade Peaches, Rocky Ford Melons and Olathe Sweet Corn!

Tell us where you get yours! If it's a specific farmer or rancher enter their name under "other" on our poll below!
