What To Include In Your First Aid/Survival Kit
In this day and age I feel like you better be prepared for ANYTHING! Now that I have my school bus yellow van I can prepare for the Apocalypse! But first things first-What do I need to carry in my First Aid/Survival Kit?
With this van we can leave all our camping gear packed and ready to go AND it even came with this really cool retro 1st Aid Kit!
Obviously I don't wanna use anything in it, if it's as old as the container looks!
They say a good knife is your MOST important survival tool but what else do you need? Colorado Parks & Wildlife says to include in a Basic Survival Kit:
Shelter Package (If you do get lost/stranded remember you MUST have shelter each night) to include but NOT limited to:
- 1 Gold & 1 Silver Emergency Blankets
- 1 6' x 6' Sheet of 3 Mil. Plastic
- 50' of Parachute Cord
- Cold Resistant Electricians Tape
Fire Package (The ability to build a fire is paramount) to include but NOT limited to:
- 2 Waterproof Contatiners of Strike Anywhere Matches
- Magnesium Fire Starting Tool© OR Metal Match©
- Cotton Balls Impregnated with Petroleum Jelly
- 1 Candle
Signal Package (Signaling, is not a spur-of-the-moment thing and you must prepare for it so that it is ready when you need it) to include but NOT limited to:
- 1 Glass ‘G.I.’-Typed Signal Mirror (An old CD may work)
- 1 Plastic Whistle
- 1- 3' x 3' Daylight Fluorescent Orange Cloth Signal Panel
Additional Recommendations:
Carry a First Aid Kit that addresses wilderness emergencies, rain gear, canteen, water pruification tablets, high energy snacks/food bars, fully charged cell phone just in case you get service & to dress for weather but remember it can change suddenly and drastically!
And don't forget to:
- Always tell someone where you are going and when you will return.
- Always stick to your plan, stay put if you become lost or stranded.
- Always take someone with you, never go out alone.
