I'm never sure what to do with my eyes when I'm at the dentist. Do I close them, do I stare at his face, do I look at the ceiling, what's the etiquette here?

When I was a kid my dentists office had funny posters with cool sayings on the ceiling so it gave you something to do while you were stuck in the chair of torture, but now I go to a big kids dentist and they don't have cool things on the ceiling for you to stare at while they inflict agony on your mouth. (Can you tell I had lots of cavities?)
