What Became of the Old KEKB ‘Rolling Radio’? [VIDEO]

Did you know the old KEKB Rolling Radio is still in active use? While it doesn't "roll" per se, the iconic broadcast trailer is as active as ever, just not quite as mobile. Where is it now?

The Rolling Radio was at every Super Sale, Grand Opening, and free pizza giveaway in Grand Junction for decades. You would often see it towed around by the old black Dodge.

The Rolling Radio made for a great broadcast center and signage. On the downside, it was impossible to fit into a car wash, and it burned through tires at the speed of light.

Rumor has it, the original sale price on the rolling radio was over $80,000.00. The company that built it is long since gone and parts are hard to come by.

So, where is it now? It just so happens, the Rolling Radio was put to pasture, literally. It's still very much in use but in a singular location. As a matter of fact, I was hanging out in it yesterday.

The Rolling Radio is now situated at Country Jam Ranch. It was placed there two years ago, parked next to the back fence in the South West corner of the grounds.

The wheels have been removed, and a wooden "porch" was constructed around it. It is still in use as a broadcast center at Country Jam and hosts acoustic concerts and the occasional Meet N' Greet locations for some artists at the Jam.

As you can see in the video, the Rolling Radio is now the year-round home for a couple of rolls of station banner and two bottles of window cleaner. A chipmunk or two might call it home over the winter, but that's about it.

The speakers have been removed from the Rolling Radio, and it received a glorious facelift with a new wrap courtesy of GJ Gardner Homes.

The beloved Rolling Radio is every bit as much of the KEKB family as ever. Now, though, fortunately for it, a permanent home has been found.
