Western Colorado’s Ideal Road Trip: Lodge Outside of Cimarron
Have you ever visited the Arrowhead Mountain Lodge just outside Cimarron, Colorado? If you have, you're probably already planning your next trip. If not, then you would be wise to make this your next Colorado road trip.
Do your vacation plans include a little time in the mountains, but on a budget and without having to travel far? You're in luck. Arrowhead Mountain Lodge is located just past Cimarron as you make your way between Montrose and Gunnison.
Over the last two years, I've had chances to visit Arrowhead four times. In my case, the visit was work-related, not a getaway. Even at that, though, it was the most fun I've had in ages. My visit involved a performance with the Desert Flyer Band. The lodge runs the AML Summer Concert Series, and it's well worth checking out. Here's the rundown for the next couple of weeks:
- June 29 at 6:00 - The Desert Flyer Band
- July 4 at 6:00 - Tony Rosario and Michael Reese
- July 5 at 6:00 - Tony Rosario and Michael Reese
- July 6 at 6:00 - Neon Sky
What can you do at the is lodge beside listening to bands? For starters, you have access to fishing and fly-fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, dirt biking, ATV riding, and of course, hiking. In winter you can enjoy snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Inside, you'll find an excellent restaurant specializing in Prime Rib. You can have dinner inside or out, depending on your preference.
While visiting last July, we were greeted by unexpected rain. You may be thinking, "Big deal." Well, if you recall, experiencing any rain at all in 2018 was a big deal. Check out the video.
How big of an excursion is this? The drive from Grand Junction to the lodge comes in at just under two hours. That's not far to drive for a peaceful getaway.
This is the ideal Colorado road trip. If you live in the Grand Valley, you're looking at a two-hour drive at the most. The lodge rates are comparable to your average motel. The dinner? Don't even get me started. Fantastic. The next time you're in the mood for a drive, pay a visit to this amazing lodge.
