Weed Killer Found In Beer, Wine In Grand Junction

After a hard day working or playing many in Colorado and elsewhere like to have a nice cold beer.

But do you always know what's in it?

Several beers sold locally have been found to have traces of glyphosate in them. Glysophate is the ingredient in weed killers such as Round-Up and has also been identified by the World Health Organization as a carcinogen.

Experts state the glyphosate may have come from using a weed killer near where the ingredients are grown or could have small amounts of it in the water supply used to make the beer.

It's not just beer, but wine as well as other adult beverages. The Environmental Protection Agency has set risk tolerances and the amount found in these beverages are below those tolerances, studies suggest that even one part per trillion can stimulate cancer growth.

Some countries, such as France have banned the use of Round-Up and glyphosate and many in the US are now calling for it as well until a way to make it safe is found.

The beers involved in the study where glyphosate was found include Budweiser, Coors, Miller Lite, Sam Adams, Samuel Smith Organic and New Belgium.
