Best estimates put it at roughly 7 1/2 weeks until my 43rd birthday, and my current health status isn't going to cut it. Body fat is too high, energy level is too how, and forehead is too big. I'm making a resolution to seriously consider the possibility of maybe getting back in shape. Check out my goals, and stay with me for weekly updates.

At last Sunday's remote at Complete Nutrition, the decision, and ultimate mistake, was made to get on a scale and get a body fat analysis. The bad news: 23.1% body fat. The good news: I'm 42 but have the metabolism of a 41 year old. That combined with the fact I read at a nine-year-old level, makes me feel a little bit better about turning 43.

So, what does one turn to for motivation in a situation like this? Recently, my 69-year-old dad suffered a massive heart attack. He was in a coma from January 31st through the end of February. He is now awake and alert, and beginning the agonizing process of building up strength to breath on his own without life support. If he can persevere through this misery, then I can get off my fat butt and get back in shape.

Here's our starting point: My weight is 232.8 pounds. Even when I was lean, I used to way about 210. To better understand my concern, check out the red circled are in the picture below.

Let's make that my goal. My other immediate goal is to get back to working out heavily at least 3-4 times a week. Considering my workout partner is Margaret Taylor from Monument Fitness, there is little doubt I'll stay motivated. If I don't, Margaret will beat me up. She's done it before.

My immediate goals:

  • 10 clean, wide, controlled pullups without assistance
  • Body Weight down to 220
  • 25 dips at body weight (real dips, not the slop you see at the gym)

Hopefully, by April 30th, my dad will be home and breathing on his own, and I'll be able to achieve the goals listed above. Stay in touch for progress reports from both of us.
