Labor Day is coming up. Let's celebrate all the hard working men and women of Western Colorado with these Robert Grant photos.

I sincerely hope you'll have a chance to kick back and relax this Labor Day weekend. With any luck, it'll be a three-day weekend for you.

For your viewing pleasure, check out these Grand Junction area photos from the 1940's, 50's, 60's, 70's and even a few from the '80's, from late Daily Sentinel photographer Robert Grant.

The real fun with these videos is when you see someone you know. Look closely. When putting these videos together, I frequently noticed people from my childhood in Grand Junction. The more I watch them, the more people I recognize.

One of the firefighters in the "Part II" video, Mike Gazdak, just retired earlier this month. He was with the Grand Junction Fire Department for 39 years. There's a photo in the video at top showing Grand Junction icon R.T. Mantlo.

Take a break, Grand Junction. You've earned it. Make the most of the Labor Day weekend, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy a well-deserved break. While you're at it, take a moment to view past residents as they do what they do best.
