My buddy Joe, the Public Information Officer for Ute Water among other things, and I went to lunch a few weeks back and he told me about an amazing discovery that was made when Snowmass Village decided to expand their reservoir.

Apparently a bulldozer operator was working on the expansion when he unearthed approximately 25 percent of a single juvenile Columbian mammoth!

The bones were of course cleaned and put on display in the district's office in Snowmass Village where hundreds of local residents have come to the office to view the bones since their discovery.

This appears to be the most complete mammoth fossil found in Colorado and Ute Water is giving you the opportunity to get more information about this amazing discovery during two free community presentations with Dr. Ian Miller, the paleontologist who directed the excavation of the world’s largest fossil find.

These are scheduled for:

Thursday, January 17th at 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm on the 2nd Floor of CMU University Center, Parking is FREE and the event is FREE!
