James L. Grant, and his son, Robert Grant, both of Clifton, served their country during World War I and II respectively. Take a look at memories captured by a father and son from our own backyard.

James Grant, the former postmaster of Clifton, served in the United States Navy during the first World War.

Robert Grant, the former photographer from the Daily Sentinel, born and raised in Clifton, served in the United States Army during World War II.

My grandpa, Robert Grant, told me once the only real disagreement he and his father ever had involved his choice of careers and his decision as to what branch of the military he would serve in. I'll do my best to quote him -

My dad (James Grant) told me once, 'There's only been two times in my life I've been disappointed in you; when you decided not to become an electrician, and when you joined the Army instead of the Navy.'" - Robert Grant

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. Please take a moment to reflect on a two generations of Western Colorado residents who served their country, and then made their way back to the community they loved.
