Here's a theft that isn't a laughing matter, but you're not alone if you can't keep a straight face just thinking about it.

Before you think I'm joking, someone really did steal turf numbers 4,2,0 from the football field at Stocker Stadium.

According to Crime Stoppers of Mesa County, sometime between 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18 and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19 the three synthetic turf numbers left the field.

This caper was quite a feat. First, each number is 4-feet wide, 6-feet long, and weighs about 10 pounds. Second, this happened just off one of, if not the busiest intersection in Grand Junction.

It's unclear if this was a well-planned and incredibly gutsy theft or if the thieves had smoked enough weed they did something amazingly stupid and just by luck, got away with it.

Regardless, the real trouble for those involved is the estimated loss is over $5,000. That means this is felony theft and is punishable by fines and prison time.
