To Anyone Who’s Ever Lost a Parent – The Oak Ridge Boys Say it All [VIDEO]
If you've every lost a parent, or have come close to losing them, you can fully appreciate how much some of those tedious little things that used to be an annoyance can instantly become a memory you would give everything to do over again. There is a tune, "I Get To," by the Oak Ridge Boys, that puts all those feelings into song.
On January 31st of last year, my father suffered a massive heart attack while driving. Doctors told us he probably wouldn't make it through the night. For the next six weeks he lingered in a coma. On February 22nd, while my dad was still in a coma, with his future looking grim, the Oak Ridge Boys performed at the Avalon Theater in Grand Junction. My mother and I chose to attend the concert, not only because we love the mighty Oaks, but because we needed a break from spending every waking moment in the ICU. It blew both our minds that the Oaks would perform a tune that hit so incredibly close to home.
Take a listen. No doubt the tune will touch a memory and bring similar feelings to you.
