Colorado has changed a lot since the late 1800s. With towns that were originally made up of miners and a wild west vibe, several reminders around the state still exist to take us back to what once was.

One of these relics is The Strater Hotel in Durango. Not only is The Strater one of the most historic hotels in the country and a living history museum, but it also serves as a storybook to Colorado's past. The Strater was first constructed back in 1887 and quickly became a popular winter destination – even for town locals, who would close up their own homes and move in for the winter. During this time, it was the main place for Durango's social gatherings.
