A man who forced his way into a motel room in Wheat Ridge and demanded money and pills is going to prison, in part, for shooting the service dog of one of the victims.

Two people, Jamelle Adams, and Jasmine Martinez knocked at the door of the American Motel room where the two women were staying with their dogs.

When they were denied entry, they pushed their way into the room and began pistol-whipping the two women in the room, demanding money and pills. The service dog of one of the women began attacking the two and was shot by Adams, losing her leg.

Security video at the motel shows the pair running down the hall, being chased by the dog that was shot as well as the other dog that was in the room with the women.

Martinez was sentenced to ten years for her part in the crime.
