You may start seeing dogs with yellow ribbons tied to their collars or around their necks, here's everything you need to know about the Yellow Dog Project.

The yellow ribbons tied around a dogs neck or collars signifies that the dog needs a little extra space, this is part of the Yellow Dog Project (TYDP), a global movement hoping to educate the public and dog owners to identify dogs needing space.

This could be for a young dog in training that may not understand how to act around little ones just yet. Or it could be a recently adopted dog where the owner and pooch just haven't had the time to build a trusting relationship.

If you see a dog wearing a yellow ribbon, you or your child that when approaching a strange dog, always ask the appropriate ways to approach or make contact with a dog with permission of a dog owner only, whether or not a dog is a “yellow dog”.

The Yellow Dog Project want to stress that this isn't an excuse to not properly train your dog, this can be a temporary situation, whether the dog is recovering from surgery or if the dog is a recent adoption and may have been abused or neglected.

TYDP also states that this isn't a "waiver of responsibility." TYPD should be seen as an educational and training tool for you, your dog and the public you want to socialize your pet in.
