It's hard to imagine we're rapidly approaching the century mark when it comes to the crazy antics of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. Today, January 7, marks the 87th anniversary of the Globetrotters' first game.

There does exist some debate as to the actual date of the Globetrotters' first performance. In any case, most sports historians put the date at January 7, 1927. Since then, the team's skill, theatrics, and comedy, have been thrilling audiences for generations.

Oddly, the Harlem Globetrotters actually originated in the South side of Chicago. It wasn't until 1968 the Globetrotters would play their first "home" game in Harlem. Even stranger, the executive offices for the team are located in Phoenix, Arizona.

To date, the team has played over 20,000 exhibition games in 120 countries. Currently, the team is on tour in the United States and Canada.
