Texas Seeks Grand Junction Foster Families for Homeless Pets
Are you looking for an opportunity to help with the relief efforts in Texas? Have you thought about assisting the dogs displaced by Hurricane Harvey? Foster families are needed in Grand Junction. Here's how you can help.
Grand Junction's Roice-Hurst Humane Society is working with shelters hit hardest by the hurricane. According to KJCT 8, Roice-Hurst has received 24 foster applications. This is fantastic, except for the fact they need more than 150 to get the dogs to Grand Junction.
Your first instinct in this matter is probably the same as mine; what if you get attached to the animal, and don't want to give them up? According to Laura Taylor, a foster parent, and volunteer, "It's not a big commitment to ask for and also in the meantime, they may fall in love with a future member of the family and or come to the realization that they may want to adopt another animal somewhere down the road."
Speaking as someone who has adopted three dogs from Roice-Hurst over the years, I can't help but think this is a fantastic opportunity for all.
How can you go about becoming a foster family? Applications can be obtained in person or by calling (970) 434-7337. You can also email the Roice-Hurst Humane Society at info@rhumanesociety.org.
If it sounds like there's a certain urgency in my voice, it's because there's a rapidly approaching deadline. Applications must be received by Friday, September 8. What's with the deadline? Roice-Hurst employees need time to submit the state required home checks and interview potential, foster parents.
Wouldn't it be great to provide a home for a shelter pet in need? You would be doing a great thing. Who knows, you may find your new best friend. Apply today.
