A heads down moment turned into a heads up play.

The Colorado Mesa University’s cross-country teams competed Saturday in the NCAA Division II National Championships. The men’s team finished 18th, while the women were 22nd.

With only two games left in the regular season, Colorado Mesa University’s women’s basketball team has received two pieces of good news since Saturday.

The Colorado Mesa Mavericks women's basketball team looks to stay perfect when they take on the New Mexico schools at Brownson Arena. The Mavs are 21-0 on the season and have won 32 consecutive games at home, dating back to January of 2012.

A news release out Wednesday is once again marking national attention for the Colorado Mesa University’s women’s basketball team, and this time, it’s for something outside the basketball court.

The CMU Maverick Basketball Teams ended their regular season play Saturday night at Brownson Arena on the Colorado Mesa University campus in Grand Junction. The regular season ended in usual fashion for the women's team, and on a downfall for the men's team.

For the second straight week, the CMU Women's Basketball Team is ranked #1 in the South Central Region. The ranking would  give the Mavericks a berth in the Regional Tournament, and the #1 seed would have the Mavs playing on their home court.

Last week the Colorado Mesa University Women's Basketball team tied the highest National Ranking they have ever had with #7. That was back in 2002 when they won the RMAC Championship. Now the Maverick Women have moved up past that.
