George Jones' farewell concert Friday night (Nov. 22) was in the works while the iconic singer was still alive and calling the shots, helping out with the planning. But somehow, he knew he'd be a no show at the event.

We lost the Possum, George Jones -- who is considered one of the greatest country singers ever, if not the greatest country singer ever -- earlier this year. Of course, the 2013 CMA Awards paid tribute to the legend, with Alan Jackson and George Strait performing a duet of 'He Stopped Loving Her Today,' which is Jones' most recognizable and beloved song.

If George Jones were still alive, he'd likely be mighty pleased to see the talented roster for his farewell concert.

Two days before what would have been George Jones' 82nd birthday, the iconic singer's country gospel record 'Amazing Grace' will be released.
