Last week I told you about Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner's attempt to jump from 24 miles above the New Mexico dessert, and we were all disappointed when he had to cancel due to weather conditions. We'll the wait is over!

History was made yesterday (10/14) as he jumped from the highest-ever altitude and broke the sound barrier!

Just in case your not sure how high 24 miles is, imagine three times the altitude of where planes usually fly, and in case your wondering how fast you have to go to break the sound barrier it's about 690 mph at that height.

For the "Red Bull Stratos mission", Baumgartner was placed in a special pressure suit, and lifted 24 miles high by a 55-story, helium-filled balloon over the New Mexico desert! After stepping out for his jump, Baumgartner spent 4 minutes and 20 seconds in free fall before activating his parachute, reached 833 mph to break the sound barrier, and landed 9 minutes after stepping off.
