Wednesday morning, The Denver Zoo announced that a 7-year-old African lion gave birth to an active, alert, healthy cub.

The lion cub is doing very well and zoo staff says he's spending most of the time with mom in a "den box." The den box was constructed to mimic the space a African lion would give birth in the wild.

The Denver Zoo has a program to help grow the lion population with their Lion Species Survival Plan. This cub's birth is considered a major success for the program.
