Just yesterday, renovation crews began removing the seats from the Historic Avalon Theatre as part of it's major remodel. Question: Should the Avalon refrain from putting new seats in and go with standing room only?

Some of the best venues in the world are without seats. Woodstock didn't have chairs. CalJam didn't have seats. Think of how many more people you can cram into a venue if you don't have to make room for seats.

Consider how much money could be saved on this renovation if funds didn't have to be allocated for seating. Are you familiar with the mid-range quality seats like they put in movie theaters? Well, those run $499.99 each. With the Avalon seating close to 1,000 patrons, that could quickly add up to some big bucks.
