Scammer in Grand Junction Says He’s Raising Money for Troops
A man in Grand Junction has been going door to door looking for donations to send to the troops, but Operation Interdependence, a local non-profit organization says it's a scam and all should be aware of it.
Operation Interdependence sends care packages overseas and has received calls from many people asking about this individual raising money for their organization. Operation Interdependence does not go door to door seeking donations.
One individual said he encountered the man who asked him for a donation of $80 to feed 200 troops. The care packages sent include small items like games or cards or snacks and in 2019 the non-profit sent 53,625 care packages and spent over $35,000 dollars. While the organization appreciates donations, those are done through the website or by contacting the organization.
People who have encountered the man say he is around 5'9" tall and has a brown beard and tattoos on his hands and neck. If you encounter this individual contact the Grand Junction Police Department and let them know.
