Sam Hunt stunned fans on the third night of the 2018 CMA Music Festival on Saturday (June 9), turning up in a surprise appearance at Nissan Stadium in Nashville for a surprise performance of his current single, "Downtown's Dead."

Hunt's performance was kept hush-hush beforehand, but a fan at Nissan Stadium happened to catch his surprise entrance as he simply wandered into the crowd like any other random fan attending the evening's headlining sets. Click on the clip below to see the fans around Hunt begin to scream as they recognize him right before he rises from his seat, mic in hand, to begin his performance.

Hunt did not perform on the main stage at Nissan Stadium. Instead, he made his way through the crowd to a smaller stage that was set up in the middle of the audience to deliver his latest single in the round.

The superstar's performance was one highlight of an evening of sets at the stadium that included Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Jon Pardi and more.

Hunt took a long break between singles before releasing "Downtown's Dead" in May. It's his first new single since he dropped his record-shattering "Body Like a Back Road" in January 2017, and it's the first taste fans have had of his upcoming sophomore album, for which there is no scheduled release date yet.

The singer has also shared another new song, "Nothing Lasts Forever," with fans live in concert. Fans can probably expect to hear both new songs, as well as hits from his landmark debut album, Montevallo, when Hunt headlines the third and final night of the 2018 Taste of Country Music Festival in Hunter, N.Y., on Sunday (June 10) in Hunter, N.Y.
