Retired Astronaut Rescued near the summit of Colorado’s La Plata Peak
The La Plata Peak is the fifth-highest fourteener in Colorado, and Jeffrey Ashby was trying to get to the top when he fell nearly 500 feet. He is currently recovering in the hospital after being life-flighted Tuesday morning. Jeffrey Ashby is a former Nasa Astronaut.
Other hikers were on the mountain on Monday and heard his cries for help. It took several hours to get to him because of the dangerous terrain, they had to call in Flight for Life to help with finding his exact location.
