The Grand Junction City Council has scheduled a forum for the six applicants who are up for the At Large City Council seat, which was vacated by the resignation of City Councilmember Rick Brainard.

The forum will include a “meet and greet” followed by a question and answer session. This forum will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5 in the City Hall Auditorium, 250 North 5TH Street in Grand Junction. The event will also be broadcast live on Mesa County cable channel 12, as well as streamed on the city’s website at www.gjcity.org.

The six applicants are: Riecke Claussen, Tom Kenyon, Reginald Wall, Barbara Traylor Smith, Teresa Black and Charles Michael Elliott.

The question and answer process will proceed with the City Councilmembers asking questions and each candidate responding. The public and media will also be invited to present questions for each candidate to answer.

After the Q&A session, the mayor will convene a formal meeting, where the City Council will have a discussion of the candidates and their answers. It is anticipated that a motion will be made and the Council making a verbal vote, which may result in the selection of a new City Councilmember.

The newly selected Councilmember will then be sworn into office by the City Clerk and will serve until the next regular election in April 2015.
