A popular new store is now open in  Montrose.

Montrose is home to Colorado's 17th Harbor Freight Tools store.

The new store, which opened today (July 16) will have a grand opening on Wednesday, July 31 at 8:00 am at 2201 S. Townsend in the Penn Center Mall.

Harbor Freight always seems to be a popular destination for people looking to buy power tools, hand tools, and supplies without having to give an arm and a leg.

The new store in Montrose is 15,000 square feet and will be open 7 days a week.

Harbor Freight first opened in 1980 and now has nearly 1,000 stores across the country with some 20,000 employees. The company actually started in 1977 in Southern California. At age 17, Eric Smidt started to transform his dad's small phone sales business into a successful mail-order company.  Eric discovered he could bypass resellers, cut deals directly with factories, making it possible to buy for less and sell for less.

The new Montrose location is significant in that it's only the second Harbor Freight store on the western slope. The other 15 are all located on the front range.
