I have never really had to deal with putting down a family pet until last year,  right before Christmas. My Golden Retriever Shadow was taken to an emergency hospital after suffering seizures one evening. Healthiest dog ever until that night.

Long story short she had a massive tumor on her spleen as was bleeding internally. We needed to come up with a minimum of $2500 to operate or put her down. I didn't have the cash available immediately but couldn't make that decision on a family member that had got my daughter and I through so many up and downs through our  life.

I couldn't just walk away, I tried.

By the time the bleeding had stopped and we took her home for the night, I ended up sleeping on the floor right next to her. If she died that night, it would not be alone.

We got through the night, got her the surgery she needed and is now happy and healthy. This experience was horrific as it was exposed me to something I had avoided up to this point. Pet euthanasia.

Many pets are put down for health reasons and many are put down due to neglect. I saw this video and it reminded me that there are so many pets that don't need to go this way.

Check out this video and hopefully the next time you think you need a puppy you might want to consider adopting a pet that could use a good home.

Tough to watch and even easier to do something about it.
