Pedal Your Way Through May – It’s Grand Valley Bike Month
May is Grand Valley Bike Month and in addition to riding your bike, you can enjoy a whole lot of bicycling themed events including a special bike to work day.
The big kick-off for the month is on Wednesday, May 2nd which is Bike to Work Day. Everyone who has a bicycle is invited to leave the car at home and ride to work. View the Bike to Work Day Map for the best route to take for your commute.
Bike to Work Day has special breakfasts that will be served from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Medical Center, Monument Health, City Hall, Octopus Coffee on Horizon Drive, and Family Health West Civic Center Park Breakfast.
If it's not possible to ride to work, opt to ride your bike instead of driving as often as practical all month long. Get your family friends and coworkers to do the same and see who can drive the least by riding the most. Add even more fun by signing up at the Healthy Mesa County website to see how your miles stack up against everyone else.
Activities include screenings of the documentary 'UnReal' and the movie American Flyer. USA Collegiate Cycling Races will be May 4th through May 6th. The kids have a Bike to School Day on May 9th and group and family rides on May 15th and May 22nd.
On May 30th there will be a Grand Valley Bike Month Celebration at Las Colonias Park from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. For information or a complete list of events, visit the Healthy Mesa County Grand Valley Bike Month website.
