One Dead After a Shooting Last Night in Grand Junction
As I was scrolling through Facebook this morning I saw a post from the Grand Junction Police Department that caught my eye, and not for a good reason. Our local police department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead but they believe this is an isolated incident and the community doesn't have anything to worry about.
It was approximately 10:35 p.m. last night (September 17th) a call came into the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center that stated shots were fired on the 900 block of White Avenue. The witness said they heard multiple shots then saw two subjects leave the address in an unknown vehicle.
Officers arrived in just minutes and established a perimeter around the apartment complex, and began clearing the residence which had three people inside. They were unable to locate a suspect or any gunshot victim.
Law enforcement then got a call around 10:46 p.m. reporting a male at St. Mary's Hospital with a gunshot wound that had been dropped off outside of the hospital entrance. A few minutes later a second victim was dropped off with a gunshot wound that sent the hospital into lockdown.
One victim did die due to the gunshot wounds, the Mesa County Coroner's Officer will be releasing their identity after relatives have been notified.
The investigation is still ongoing and law enforcement is still interviewing witnesses and pursuing leads, if you have any information on the incident that took place last night you're being asked to call 970-242-6707.
They want to stress that this seems to be an isolated incident, but please report any suspicious activity that you might see by calling 911.
